Commission Statement Change FAQs

Everything you need to know about Pie's upcoming commission statement change.

Current State: All policies for each agency are listed on their commission statement, regardless of current commission activity. This means that even policies reflected with $0.00 commission paid are included on the statement.

Future State: Only policies with current commission activity will be listed on commission statements, and agencies without any current commission activity will no longer receive a statement in that month.

QUICK FACTS:

  • Effective Date: January 2026 statements (delivered February 2026)
  • Impact: Workers Compensation & Commercial Auto
  • What's Different: Only policies with current commission activity will be shown.
  • No activity = no statement or email notification

About the change

What is changing?

Starting in January 2026, we're simplifying commission statements to show only active policies. Policies without commission activity in the statement month will be omitted from the commission statement. Additionally, statements will no longer be created or delivered to agencies without commission activity in that month. The statement format will remain.

Why?

This change aligns with industry standard practices used by most carriers, streamlining the statement creation process for Pie and enhancing the legibility of statement for agents. The statements will no longer have extra lines or pages listed with $0.00 paid commission, allowing agents to easily identify which policies they are currently being paid on.

When will this change go into effect?

This will go into effect on the January 2026 statements, delivered to the agency in February 2026.

Will historical changes be affected or changed?

No. This only applies to statements going forward from January 2026. All previously issued statements remain unchanged.

Will this apply to both workers' comp and commercial auto?

Yes. This applies to both workers' compensation and commercial auto.

Impact on your agency

How will this impact your agency?

Agencies with commission activity will receive a lighter statement via email, reflecting only the policy transactions with commission activity in the statement month. Policies that do not have any commission activity in the statement month will be omitted.

For example, if you previously received a 4-page statement with 100 policies, but only 30 had commission activity, you’ll now receive a 2-page statement with only those 30 policies.

Important: Agencies with no commission activity in the statement month will not receive a statement or email notification.

Agencies will still receive an emailed statement if there is an outstanding balance owed to Pie.

What should I do if I do not receive a statement?

First, confirm if there were any policies effective or with premium-bearing policy activity in the statement month. If there were not, no statement was created. If there was activity, verify the email notification was not filtered through your email hosting software as junk/spam. If you still cannot locate it, reach out to the Pie Service Support Team for assistance.

What is an "outstanding balance owed to Pie"?

An outstanding balance is any amount your agency owes to Pie from previous months, such as unpaid chargebacks or debit balances. If you have an outstanding balance, you'll receive a statement via email even if there's no new commission activity that month.

What if I have a chargeback or commission adjustment on an otherwise inactive policy?

This is considered commission activity and would be reflected on the statement.

Will I still be able to see my full book of business somewhere?

Yes. While monthly statements will only show current commission activity, you can access your complete policy book of business on the Pie Partner Portal.

How do I track policies that are no longer generating commission?

Policies can be reviewed on the Pie Partner Portal. Historic commission data is reflected on prior commission statements. Submit a request to the Pie Service Support Team if copies of prior commission statements are needed.

Will this affect my ability to reconcile my books or conduct audits?

No. If anything, the process should be easier with fewer transactions to review.

How will this affect year-end tax reporting or 1099 forms?

There is no impact on year-end tax reporting or 1099 forms.

Understanding your statement

What defines the "statement month"?

The statement month is the month in which your commissions were earned. Statements are delivered the following month. For example, commission activity from January 1-31, 2026 will appear on your "January statement," which you'll receive in February 2026.

What counts as "commission activity"?

Commission activity is any premium-bearing policy transaction that results in money paid to or owed by the agency in that month. This includes earning new commissions, receiving adjustments, or owing chargebacks.

Commission activity includes, but is not limited to:

  • New and renewal business, as written or earned
  • Premium-bearing Endorsements/Audits/Policy Changes/Chargebacks
  • Cancellations/Reinstatements
  • Commission Corrections

Notable Exclusions (typically NOT considered commission activity):

  • Policies with $0.00 premium written or earned in the statement month
  • Policies with no premium-bearing transactions
  • Paid-in-full policies outside their initial commission payment period
  • Canceled policies with no financial activity in the period

Can I opt out of this change and continue receiving full statements?

Since Pie is changing the internal commission statement generation process, all agencies will receive the new statement format and will not be able to opt out of this change. Agencies may still request their preferred statement type (either Excel or PDF).

I have other questions about my statement. Who can I reach out to?
